Smash and Grab in the 5300 Block of Worth

April 3, 2008

There was a “smash and grab” in the 5300 block of Worth Street on Thursday morning, April 3, at 6:30 a.m.. While the residents were sleeping, burglars broke a small pane of glass on a door, reached in, and turned the lock that was in the door. The thieves rushed into the living room where they stole a flat screen TV off the wall above the fireplace. The door had a double cylinder dead bolt but the keys had been left in the door.

It is recommended that a double cylinder lock be installed on doors and the keys not be left in the door. If a burglar does break in, he must exit the way he entered unless he can find a lock to the door. One long-time resident reports that he frequently has seen stacks of merchandise near a door after a burglary because the thieves could not exit quickly.
