East Dallas Neighborhood Meeting with the Police August 6

There will be a meeting on Thursday, August 6, at 6:30 with representatives of the Dallas Police Department.  It will be held at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, 5100 Ross Avenue .

Deputy Chief Golbeck will be there to discuss the previous three month’s crime tend and goals for the next three months.  In addition, there will be a guest speaker who will address emergency preparedness and public safety.

The meetings run about 1.5 hours and are filled with information pertaining to every neighborhood in the Central Patrol Division.  There will be a time for questions and answers.

Everybody is invited!!  The more the merrier!!  It light of our recent crime wave in Junius Heights , it is important that we are well represented.

Calling All Parents of Lipscomb Elementary Students

Registration for all Lipscomb students will begin on Thursday, August 13, lasting through the first day of school, August 24.  This registration is for all Lipscomb students, new and returning.  On Friday, August 14, the YMCA will be at Lipscomb Elementary enrolling for the YMCA after-school program.

The school will also have a Meet the Teacher Open House on Thursday, August 20, from 5-7 p.m. at the school.  Rooms will be open for students and parents to meet their teachers.  The Enrollment Team will be on hand to take enrollment forms.  YMCA will be available to sign up students for the after-school program and pass out information about other YMCA Fall Programs, such as Adventure Guides and sports teams.  The PTA will be selling spirit T-shirts, sweatshirts, bumper stickers and  PTA memberships.  School supplies will be distributed to those of you that purchased them at the end of the year, and we will have a few extra on hand to sell.

Home Tour Committee to Meet August 17

The Junius Heights Home Tour Committee will meet on Monday, August 17, at 6:30 at the home of Marsue and Bill Williams, 5612 Reiger.  If you are interested in being on the tour committee or chair of committee, please come!  We never turn down any volunteer hours!  This is a good way to meet your neighbors.  If you would like to nominate a house to be on the tour (you may nominate your own house), please contact Rob Canas at RCanas@dallascounty.org, Marsue Williams at marsue@touchstonerealty.com, Helen Manning at hmanning25@sbcglobal.net or René Schmidt at reneschmidt@att.net.

Crime Alerts

We are continuing to see lots of crimes in our neighborhood, particularly those of vehicles.  According to a law firm for criminal defense, the criminals may be looking for identity papers.  Please do not keep credit card, bank statements, driver’s licenses, etc. in vehicles.

There is a meeting this Thursday, sponsored by the Dallas Police Department, on crime in our area (above).  Please do come.

Burglaries of Vehicles

  • Sunday, August 2.  A thief popped a door lock on a vehicle parked in the 5600 block of Victor and went through the car.  It is unsure if anything was taken.
  • Saturday, August 1.  An unlocked vehicle parked in the 5600 block of Victor had items stolen from it.
  • Saturday, August 1.  A vehicle parked in the 200 block of Henderson had items stolen from it.
  • Friday, July 31.  A vehicle, parked in the 5400 block of Gaston, was stolen.
  • Thursday, July 30. An unlocked vehicle parked in the 700 block of Huntley had items stolen from it.
  • Monday, July 27. Left side window of vehicle broken in a car parked in the 5700 block of Worth.
  • Monday, July 27.  Property stolen from a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Paulus.
  • Saturday, July 25.  Drivers side window was pried open and items were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Skillman.

Burglaries of Residences

  • Saturday, August 1.  A front window was forced open in a house in the 5100 block of Junius.  Items were stolen and the thief made an exit through the front door.
  • Tuesday, July 28.  A glass door was kicked in property was stolen from a residence in the 6100 block of Gaston.

Criminal Mischief

  • Thursday, July 27.  Window broken in the 5900 block of Gaston by unknown person.

Robberies

  • Friday, July 31.  There was an aggrevated robbery in the 5900 block of Reiger.  The suspects stolen the victim’s property by hitting him in the head with a screwdriver.
  • Tuesday, July  28.  An armed robbery occurred in the 5700 block of Gaston.  An unidentified suspect held a gun to the victim’s head.  No further details are available at the present time.
