Streetcar Fund
If you’ve lived in Dallas for long you may remember riding the streetcar line from downtown Dallas to Junius Heights, the neighborhood the streetcar line was built to sell and later service. Dallas decommissioned the streetcar system in 1956 but one streetcar from the Junius Heights line survived as a dining car inside the West End Spaghetti Warehouse for 40 years. If you don’t remember riding the streetcar on Tremont Street, you probably remember celebrating a special occasion inside the streetcar in the West End eatery.
Spaghetti Warehouse recently closed and the new owners of the building have donated Streetcar 707 to the Junius Heights Historic District so that it may return home and continue to serve as a focal point and gathering place in the neighborhood it helped establish.
Here’s how you can help!
The streetcar is in need of major renovations, which will require significant funds. In addition, once the streetcar’s final home within Junius Heights is determined, preparations will have to be made for its security and protection from the elements to ensure that it will be preserved for the future.
As our plans solidify, we will be asking the community for specific help and funds, as well as seeking grants and historic preservation funds. But any amount you can give today will help us take one step closer to bringing the Junius Heights Streetcar home!
Junius Heights Historic District is a Texas 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Contributions to Junius Heights Historic District are tax deductible.
