Yard of the Month

Yard of the Month August 2021

The Junius Heights Historic District Yard of the Month for August goes to Brittney Schram at 730 N Glasgow.

Brittney moved into her lovely home just last fall. It was built in 1924 and already beautifully landscaped. However, after the big freeze in February the landscaping was devastated and Brittney had to start over from scratch. No small task for a first-time homeowner! She decided to do it herself and went with an unstructured, informal English cottage style with mostly white blooms (petunias, star jasmine, angelonias) and subtle pops of purples and pinks (hydrangeas, lavender, foxglove, salvia). Brittney lined the alley side of the yard with oakleaf hydrangeas, which will eventually provide a natural privacy hedge with giant white blooms and burnt red foliage in the fall.

Well done, Brittney! And welcome to the neighborhood!
