April 25, at 9:30 p.m.

A home in the 5300 block of Tremont was broken into the night of Wednesday, April 25, at 9:30 p.m. The alarm went off and the alarm company called a JH resident to report the back door was ajar. The resident arrived about 3 minutes later and found that a small hole had been made in the rear door’s glass panel in order to open the old night latch lock. The door was subsequently kicked in.

There were tracks in the back yard that indicated the burglar had scaled a seven foot high fence and was heading for Worth Street. Nothing was taken from the house. It is believed the burglar exited as soon as the alarm went off and the JH resident arrived on the scene.

This is the third recent rear break-in of a house in JH. If you see something suspicious, please call 911.

I have a camera which recorded this vehicle at 9:29 on the same street. Not sure if it is the criminal but the timing is dead on at 9:29pm.

A car was vandalized Saturday night (April 22) on Parkmont. The car was parked on the street and a window was broken.Â

Â

Two-three young men in their 20s, who may be living in an apartment in the 5500 block of Gaston, have been causing problems on Swiss. Last Tuesday, one of the young men came uninvited through the garage door of a house on Swiss and surprised the owner of the house. The young man wanted to know if he could go through the owner’s trash on the boulevard. The resident suspected that he came through the garage door, not to ask the question, but to see if there was anything he could easily take.

Â

Today, Sunday, April 22, the same suspect came through an open electronic gate on Swiss and stole a bike and an edger. When the owner later saw the suspect riding his wife’s bike, he stopped his car in front of the bike and demanded his wife’s bike back. The suspect refused and claimed that he had bought it. He demanded $40.00 for its return.Â

Â

The police were called.

Â

On Thursday, a Swiss Avenue resident observed one of the young men walking a dog six times in front of his house. The resident suspected he may have been casing the neighborhood.

Â

Last week in the 5100 block of Swiss, a backyard fence (with barded-wire) was scaled, Â a car was broken into and a lap-top computer was stolen.

Â

It is not known if the Swiss Avenue incidents are related to the some of the recent crimes that have happened in Junius Heights. However, it is a reasonable assumption that crime does not respect neighborhood boundaries. It has been reported  that sometimes they can be seen in a group: several young men walking with two-three younger teenage boys. If you see anything suspicious, please call 911

On Friday, April 13, a house in the 5900 block of Victor was broken into during the day. Entry was gained by climbing over a backyard fence and removing a window in the back. The thief or thieves very carefully cut out a rear window without breaking any glass. Stolen were a lap top computer, electronic devices, a guitar, camera, and wine from the refrigerator.Â

Â

The same day, a new neighbor moved into a home in the 5500 block of Victor. There were lots of boxes and crates still on the porch when around 6:00 p.m. a white Chevy truck from the 70s, drove up and began loading the boxes into the truck. Suspicious neighbors confronted the suspects who claimed that they knew the new resident. When the new resident did show up, he started yelling at them and began pulling his items from the bed of the truck. The truck sped off. The suspects were a Hispanic man and woman in their 30s with a little boy, maybe 3, who was sitting in the cab. The police were never called because the resident had his stuff back and did not wish to pursue the matter further.Â

Â

Please do call the police about any and all incidents. We get police patrols partially based on the number of incidents reported. If an incident is not reported, it didn’t officially happen and the community suffers.
